Diet

Northern Ireland is well known for its 'Ulster Fry' consisting of bacon, sausages, eggs, soda and potato bread. The local farming community provides a range of fresh produce, consisting of potatoes, vegetables, meat, milk and eggs. Traditionally many women baked bread such as sodas and wheaten farls to supplement the diet. 'Irish Stew' (made of local lamb, potatoes, onions and carrot) is a traditional meal and is usually eaten in the winter months. Soups are also popular in the colder weather.

Apart from these traditional foods, people from Northern Ireland as elsewhere in the UK eat a variety of foods. This change in diet is a result of availability and choice of foodstuff as well as being an indicator of social change.

On a night out in towns in Northern Ireland there are a wide variety of restaurants to choose from for example Chinese, Thai, French, Italian, Mexican, Asian, Californian, Spanish, American, Seafood restaurants, as well as those serving traditional foods.
