The Transcultural Nursing & Healthcare Association

The Transcultural Nursing & Healthcare Association (TCNHA) helps practitioners share their knowledge and understanding of cultural issues and provides a forum for discussion. The TCNHA is supported by the Foundation of Nursing Studies and has received funding from the Department of Health to help it grow and increase the services offered to members. Membership costs £10 a year.

Aims of the TCNHA

  • Promote knowledge and understanding of cultural issues in nursing and other health and social care professions.

  • Provide a forum for discussion about cultural issues for practitioners, teachers and managers in health and social care.

  • Contribute to the development of cultural competence locally, nationally and internationally.

  • Promote awareness of research in Britain and developments elsewhere in cultural issues in health and social care.

Benefits of joining the TCNHA

Members:

  • Receive the TCNHA newsletter twice each year. This provides ideas about good cultural practice, information about publications and ongoing research and a calendar of events. You will also receive the Foundation of Nursing Studies quarterly newsletter which contains articles on practice development, evidence-based nursing, conferences, awards etc.

  • Have the opportunity to attend, and participate in, seminars on cultural issues provided by the TCNHA.

  • Attend an annual conference, hosted by the TCNHA, on cultural issues in health care. Members receive a discount.

  • Enter the TCNHA Awards. This award is intended to assist nurses, midwives, heath visitors and other health care professionals to develop and improve cultural aspects of client care. You must be a TCNHA member to enter.

For more information visit the TCNHA webpages at http://www.fons.org
