The biggest celebration of the year for all Buddhists is the celebration of the Buddha's birth, death and enlightenment. This takes place on one day which is always the full moon of the month of Wesak, or (Saga Dawa) usually during May in the Western calendar. In Tibetan Buddhism this is called Saga Dawa. In Theravadan Buddhism the festival is called Wesak. It is a time of happiness and people go to monasteries to give thanks and light candles, recognising the qualities of the Buddha and his teachings. In some countries there are great processions. Other Special days in Buddhism include: Buddha's Miracle Day (commemorating the miracles performed just before the death
of the Buddha to demonstrate the power of the mind, if properly trained) – 28
February
Birth of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama – 6 July
The Buddha's first Discourse (teaching of Dharma) – 14 July
Celebration of Buddha's Descent from the Joyous Land – 28 October
